The
foundations of NFU Mutual starts when Stratford upon Avon and District
Farmers Union was formed in April 1909 when seven local farmers launched
a scheme to entice new members to the Union by offering insurance at cost
price. The plan worked well, and by 1910 the Midlands Farmers Mutual Insurance
Society Ltd came into being - the farmhouse of Union member
