Our top tip
in finding cheap motor insurance is to shop around and take advantage
of discounts. Cheapest motor insurance quotes are found online but
go direct to the providers website, a price comparison website may
not be as cheap. We have listed some of the best motor insurers
from the UK on the right with links to their websites for a free
quote in minutes.
Insurance approved
security also keeps motor insurance costs down, if you have a UK
specification vehicle that is less then 10 years old it should have
a factory fitted insurance approved Thatcham category 2 immobiliser
or Thatcham category 2 alarm and immobiliser already installed.
Older vehicles or imported vehicles can be fitted with an aftermarket
Thatcham CAT1 or CAT2.
Motor insurance
covers many vehicle types; City cars , Compact cars , Crossover
SUVs , Hybrid vehicles , Luxury vehicles , Microcars , Mid-size
cars , Prestige vehicles , SUVs , Sports cars , Subcompact cars
, Supercars , Compact SUV , Family car , Hot hatch , Leisure activity
vehicle , Luxury vehicles , Mini SUV , Personal luxury car. Motor
insurance companies provide a seperate category for vans, commercial
vehicles and motorcycles.
Motor insurance
is a legal requirement and provides you with cover against potentially
very high costs. If you cause an accident that results in loss of
life or permanent injury to other people, the cost of the claim
can be into millions of pounds. You cannot drive a motor vehicle
without a valid motor insurance policy and there are fines and penalties,
including jail if you are found to be driving without having motor
insurance cover.
The 3 categories
of motor insurance are;
- Third Party
Only, covers the policyholder against damage to a third party's
property or to the third party themselves, a Third Party Only
policy will pay for the repair to that other vehicle, and will
pay for any medical claims or injuries suffered by the occupant(s)
of that other car and any passengers in your car other than you.
A Third Party Only policy will not pay for the costs of repairing
your own vehicle nor will it pay anything toward your medical
expenses and if your vehicle is stolen or sets on fire, a Third
Party Only policy will not make any payment toward the theft or
repair of the vehicle.
- Third Party
Fire & Theft, exactly the same as the Third Party Only policy,
but will also pay out in the event that your vehicle is stolen
or sets on fire.
- Fully Comprehensive,
will pay-out for third party damages and injuries, will pay-out
in the event of your vehicle being stolen or set on fire, and
will also pay for any damage to your own vehicle (regardless of
whose fault the accident was).
